  Peter Quinn October 2008

While speaking at a special business networking event for small to medium size businesses in Dingle recently, Peter Quinn of Peter Quinn Consultancy Services and former president of the GAA told participants that it was not those who were born with a silver spoon in their mouths who succeed in business but those who work for their success, who have the courage to try things and who are willing to take whatever risks are needed.

During the course of the event organised by the South West Gnó Skillnet, Mr Quinn said it was high time for those merchants of doom in the economic sector to wise up and he stressed that “now is not the time for panic as panic achieves nothing”. In a surprisingly positive message from one of Ireland’s leading business consultants, Quinn spoke of the relative strength of the economy compared to the years preceding the Celtic Tiger and he went as far as forecasting a quick recovery and re-growth for the Irish economy.

Quinn suggested that a strong stomach for uncertainty and a willingness to take a risk are prerequisites to building a successful business. Referring to the public sector, Quinn lamented that these characteristics don’t feature and that “this is a major issue for our economy because in the current environment issues like risk-talking, efficiency, productivity and value for money have to be just as important in the public sector as they already are in the private sector”.

Before concluding his message of hope, Quinn congratulated the participants in the South West Gnó Skillnet for their vision, their commitment and their courage and he thanked them for creating jobs and hope and prosperity in their local area.
