Brief Overview  

You cannot NOT communicate ... so learn to communicate in ways that maximize understanding and impact!  

This is a 1 Day workshop followed by a focused 1-to-1 individual coaching session on the following day.  Throughout the programme you will gain a better insight into how you interact with others and why sometimes that interaction works well and other times not so well and learn the skills, techniques and concepts on how you can enhance your communication for high impact!

Prior to workshop participants will be invited to complete a short personality profile
 

 
Target Audience 
Anyone who appreciates the true value of effective communication and would like to learn new techniques, skills and concepts to enhance the ways in which they currently communicate.   

 
Key Learning Objectives (why should someone do this course?)    
 

·     Become a more effective communicator at home, at work and socially  

·     Manage ourselves and our reactions in times of conflict and difficulty

·     Recognize that how ‘we’ communicate with others is what invites the response we get

·     Appreciate why other people communicate and react as they do, which might be different to how we would do it and understand the difference 

·     Use your individual 1-to-1 coaching session on the following day to discuss / explore anything that has come up for you during the workshop, gain a deeper understanding of your personality profile, learn additional techniques or anything else you wish to discuss.  It’s totally confidential and a focused, dedicated hour just for you!

 

Course Outline / Content     

The workshop includes, but is not limited to, the following (not necessarily delivered in the order shown) with emphasis placed in areas as required by the group on the day.

Note:  All Learnings are backed up with group discussions, interaction, exercises, demonstration and take away exercises:

 ·         Welcome – A Case for Communication & Coaching – Outline of the day - Aims & Objectives of Programme

·         Group Introductions and participant expectations of the day

·         Understanding of the Coaching Process that follows

 

The dynamics of communication

·         The 2 Faces of Communication & Barriers to effective Communication

·         Our Rep Systems – i.e., how we represent the world to ourselves through our 5 senses

 

Understanding our Personality and Conflict Styles

·         Personality profiling: Overview.  Participants briefly explore and understand their own personality profile and by implication, that of others.  Participants will be invited to complete an on-line questionnaire and read up on their own profile in advance of the workshop

 

Our Perceptions / Attitude

·         Communication based on perception:

        ‘Perception is all there is’ (Tom Peters). 

         Learn a powerful technique to experience and understand situations (particularly conflict              situations) from the other person’s perspective.   

·         I’m OK You’re OK:

Understanding how our attitude about ourselves and our attitude about others in general, is the difference that makes the difference when we communicate with others                                                   

 

Rapport – At its very core: Communication is about Rapport

·         Rapport - What is it? And how do you achieve it every time?

·         Active Listening:

How good a listener are you?  Learn to become a real active listener and genuinely tune in to what’s going on behind what’s going on.  Sometimes, the most effective communication comes from mere silence and just    really listening

 

 Understanding how we typically end up in problem creation & situations

·         Brief Introduction to Transactional Analysis **

·        The Drama Triangle

·         The Winners Pyramid

 ** Transactional analysis is a theory of human behaviour and communication developed by Eric Berne, MD (d.1970).  It can be used in any field where there is a need for understanding individuals, relationships & communication and provides insight into where they can break down and what can be done to achieve enhanced communication.

Wrap up / Evaluation

 

The programme was very well received and the following feedback was provided by the participants: 

I attended the communication programme yesterday at the Killarney park, presented by Mary T.
The course yesterday was so interesting and informative and I was looking forward to putting everything I learnt and would need from my notes into practice in my day to day work.
However, today, the one to one with Mary T was mind blowing – it was so great to discuss what I learned yesterday and above all to discuss issues which I have never discussed before.
I really feel a cloud has lifted because of this time I have had with Mary – it was helpful, informative, totally un-judgemental and I think somewhat life changing.
    

I would highly recommend this coaching session the day after the programme, it really gets things into perspective.

 I found the course with Mary extremely beneficial especially the coaching session which I felt draws all the learnings of the course together.  I have benefited greatly from the course ad coaching session.  Mary’s very clear in her deliverance of information.  Her communication skills are excellent and her energy is infectious, as a result I hope to bring my new found skills to the workplace and enjoy the bountiful fruits of it.

This hour was the icing on the cake for me! On the full day session there was so much to get through that it was nice to go home and reflect on what was discussed and come back to Mary T and talk about your own communication skills and issues you may have and get her personal and professional advice.

I think if today didn’t happen it would be like reading a book and not reading the last chapter.

I have attended many courses in the past and this is the first time I was ever offered this time for ‘me’.  Mary told us on day 1 that we would have this one-to-one time on day 2 and advised us to think about what we wanted to discuss with her and to come along with an agenda.    

I thought it was a fantastic idea - first of all I had to really think about what I wanted discussed so as to get the optimum benefit from Mary who was just a mine of information and secondly I looked forward to having a ‘clear stage’ with no other spectators looking on.  I was free to discuss anything I wanted in a totally confidential setting – for me it was the icing on the cake and ended this 2 day course beautifully.   

Usually at the end of a course I would feel tired and worn out but this time I was full of energy and found myself excitedly telling my daughter about different exercises we were asked to do …. Then I  waited for her response which was in all cases  - with ‘High Impact’.

For me this course is a Must Do for everybody regardless!!
